Peers will be available to support you as you learn the basics and transition from the backyard to maybe tournament level play. Advanced players play with peers but also are asked to team up with others to share ideas and skills. We share and rotate court time. We play in a supportive, positive environment. You will need to bring enthusiasm, a racket (we have them for evaluation, sale and a few to use until you get one) a change of court shoes (no outside shoes in the gym) and water. We provide shuttles, but you may use your own. This is a recreational and developmental program, and we share court time.

Learn a gentle and effective fitness routine, based on principles of natural movement, designed to loosen, stretch, and tone your whole body in balance. This sequenced approach to exercise begins with movements to release habitual tension and improve posture before adding exercises that build strength. This approach avoids “toning in” or reinforcing poor postural habits that can contribute to repetitive strain, wear on your joints, and discomfort or pain. Exercises engage in your natural ability to recycle the forces of gravity to reclaim balanced postural alignment, put spring back in your step, and live in your body more comfortably. Movement practices are based on principles of Aston Kinetics™ and Sensory Enhanced Yoga®. Each class will include movement applications for daily activities to sustain the benefits. We will be standing, sitting, and on the floor. Please bring a yoga mat and a bath-size towel to class.
Shirley Lynch, MS, OT, LMT, Certified Aston Practitioner™, is an occupational therapist and massage therapist in private practice in West Concord MA offering manual therapy, movement education and fitness. Friends of Center Park invite you to join Massachusetts Master Gardeners in a “hands-on and how-to” series of classes where creating and maintaining sun and shade gardens and landscapes will be discussed and demonstrated in a real garden setting rather than a classroom. Topics will follow the natural cycle of the season and include designing garden beds, starting seeds, dividing perennials, taking cuttings, making, and using compost, watering, weeding, pruning, trimming, edging, identifying, labeling, and nurturing soil and plants. A new initiative is to expand the Pollinator Garden, plant a willow living fence and native shrubs in our Hügelkultur planting berm, and add to the newly established Woodland Garden beds and pathways. Bring a chair to just sit nearby and observe, if you prefer, as the "hands-on" portion of this class is entirely optional. Please dress for the weather, and bring garden gloves, your favorite bug repellent, hydration for yourself, and clippers if you have them.
In case of rain: Class cancelled if pouring rain, but feel free to still attend if just a mild drizzle, as overcast and damp is ideal for gardening weather.
For program information, contact Alison Saylor via email at Friends@carlislecenterpark.org.

Wagon Wheel style rug making is a form of rug weaving. Wagon Wheel rugs are done on a round frame and use strips of fabric to weave the rug. The pattern appears to be spokes on a wagon wheel. This class will review some history, set up the loom, discuss good fabrics to use, cut and prepare fabric for weaving, prepare the warp and prepare the weft, and then how to weave the weft and add spoke as the weaving progresses. Students will be expected to do some prep and weaving at home each week. We will finish the rugs, with fringe, on the last week. Some hand sewing is easy and required.
Students will need to provide fabric for their rug. These rugs were traditionally made with used clothing and fabrics. ( We call this upcycling now). Cotton fabrics work best. Jeans, wool, button style shirts, skirts, sheets, curtains, new fabric and even towels work. A complete material list will be sent to participants in advance.

Instructor: Rachel Emery, PT, RYT 200. Rachel started practicing yoga many years ago as a training adjunct to running and playing tennis. Seeing benefits in others parts of her life, she deepened her practice by adding meditation and breath work. The combination of these practices has had a profound effect on both her physical and mental health, and she enjoys sharing these benefits with others. Rachel completed her 200 hour teacher training at Revolution Community Yoga, as well as supplementary coursework in Chair Yoga. In addition, Rachel has over 25 years of experience working with all ages and abilities as a licensed physical therapist. Off the mat, Rachel enjoys painting and photography.
