Among its many studied benefits, mindfulness has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression; improve sleep, focus, and physical health; and increase self-compassion. But what exactly is mindfulness, and how do you practice it? This four-part course will introduce mindfulness to participants through group instruction and gentle, supportive guided exercises such as seated meditation, walking meditation, visualization, and body scan. All backgrounds and mobility levels are welcome, and practices can be adapted as needed. This course is appropriate for those brand new to mindfulness, as well as more experienced practitioners looking to build on or refresh their skills.
About the Instructor: Marianne Cook, EdD, LICSW, is a psychotherapist in private practice and a trained Mindfulness Facilitator through the Mindfulness Center at Brown University.
